Christmas in Baghdad, Iraq

Merry Christmas!!!

I'm so blessed to work with such great people in Iraq.  We've had our share of fun preparing for this special day.  We decorated the office by hanging ornaments on the ceiling, decorating "Charlie Brown" Christmas trees, hanging lights, and filling stockings.

Our "mail detail" has been busy with all the care packages, handmade cards/letters from kids, and Christmas cards from supporters around the globe.  You have no idea how much your love, support and encouragement makes us feel--we swell with pride to serve you and our country.

We had a few hours yesterday to hold our Christmas Party in the office.  We played card games, dominoes, Trivial Pursuit, ate munchies, and watched the movie "Christmas with the Kranks."

We split our Christmas Day into two shifts to either have a morning or afternoon away from the office.  I slept in, spiked the heat, turned up the Christmas music on my laptop and opened gifts in bed!  I felt like a kid!

It was hard to select pictures to attach because there are so many high points from this month but here are some of the highlights:

(1) Our security guards are from Fiji and they blessed us with their powerful voices during our Chapel service, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Candlelight Ceremonies.
(2) It was a chilly candlelight ceremony but such a beautiful moment.  As we sang Christmas carols, we lit each others candles and held them high.
(3) My Air Force buddies!  Out of 50+ personnel in J-4 Logistics, we are the five responsible for procuring and distributing every product you can imagine to the Iraqi Military and Police throughout Iraq.
(4) Every generous decoration you've mailed is proudly displayed on my desk.  Thanks so much for your kindness!  Also, I don't wear my gear at the desk all day but the snapshot was taken right before I left for the evening.

One last thought...our Commanding General eloquently said in our Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony that we are bringing "Peace on Earth and Good Will to Man."  May the beauty and joy of Christmas bring praise to your heart and God's peace to your home.

Temperature Update: Chilly, 40 degrees

Deployment Countdown:  16 Weeks Down (63%) -- 10 Weeks to Go (37%)

For God and Country,
Tracie
